The MS KK5342 was copied between 1480 and 1500 from the MS XIX.17-3,[1] a German fencing manual created by Hans Talhoffer between 1446 and 1459. The original currently rests in the holdings of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria. Hils assumed that Talhoffer was involved in this manuscript's creation and dated it to the same period as the XIX.17-3, but more recent watermark analysis shows that it was created after 1480 (and therefore probably after Talhoffer's lifetime).
